Lake Macdonald, Glacier National Park, Montana

Around 7:40 I had a nagging thought; go to the lake, go to the lake, go to the lake. It would not stop its soft persistent nagging. So, I got up and went. Thinking I may submerse myself in the warm glow of a setting sun and gaze in wonder upon mesmerizing reflections of the mountain scene before me, I perched myself on a more secluded gravel bar. To my surprise a most dramatic thunderstorm began to brew. Though I did not know as I watched the clouds undergo drastic transformations that this is what was taking place. Magnificent cloud formations unlike any I had witnessed before slowly began to transform from moment to moment. Nearing the end of this transformation sheets of rain stretching over a mile wide began to drift over the mountain scene from left to right. Eventually dropping thunder bolts into the mountain side. As I was walking out to escape a good drenching I walked past a man and woman likely in their 70’s. I said, “that was one hell of a show. Wasn’t it?” The gentleman replied, “I captured an amazing time lapsed video!” I replied, “You can’t get any better entertainment than that! That was remarkable!”
It was refreshing to have the same excitement reciprocated. I could feel their genuine appreciation for what they just witnessed.
In the final moment as I turned to look about the scene one last time, a lone thunder bold dropped straight down between the two mountains in a final crescendoing clap as if to say its goodbye’s.
